Stavovské divadlo
A.Haffenecker (1783)

In its original form his theatre was Prague´s most significant example of early classicist architecture. The solution is unprecedental, since initially, seating in the theatre consisted of a single row of separately standing armchairs and then just wooden benches.

As the society moved in more democratic directions, armchairs were installed in the whole auditorium area. The need to conserve space and to respect safety regulations resulted in the installation of familiar tip-up seats.
